Metro Detroit Area Stone Shop has Rich History Dating to Mid-19th Century

BEDMINSTER, NJ, June 04, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Stone Shop in Rochester Hills, Michigan (Metro Detroit area), specializes in the custom cutting and fabricating of Indiana natural stone products for pier caps, keys, sills, window and door surrounds, columns, coping, fireplaces, veneer, accents, benches, quoins, address stones, balustrades, ball ornaments, signs, custom cutting and carving.
Its history dates to 1864, when German stone mason Felix Meier came to the United States and worked throughout the Detroit area building numerous stone railroad bridges. Felix then went to work in Chicago for several years after the "Great Chicago Fires of 1871".
After completing numerous restoration projects in Chicago, Felix returned to Detroit in 1875 continuing in his trade as a stone mason and in 1885 he started his first cut stone contracting business.
Felix was involved with many Detroit landmarks including the Hurlbut Memorial at the entrance to Waterworks Park in 1895.
Since its founding, the family owned and operated The Stone Shop Inc., has focused on providing quality natural stone materials for commercial and residential projects throughout the Southeast Michigan region.
The company specializes in cut limestone for residential and commercial use.
Today, Felix's great-grandchildren, Ken and Gary Vermander carry on the 5th generation family stone business as the owners of The Stone Shop, Inc.
