Public Safety Fleet Managers Share Their Experiences And Wisdom At NAFA's 2010 Institute & Expo
NAFA Fleet Management Association provides public safety fleet managers a forum to discuss issues, problems, and successes within their field at NAFA's 2010 Institute & Expo in Detroit.

PRINCETON, NJ, April 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Every single day, public safety fleet managers face issues, trends, and challenges that are unique to their fleets. Government bureaucracies, union issues, environmental mandates, and budget restrictions are all obstacles to overcome. Meanwhile, public safety fleets not only purchase sedans and light trucks, but police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks. Public safety fleet managers need to stay on top of the changes taking place in their industry as changes to these vehicles can mean the difference between life and death. NAFA understands the pressures these fleet managers are under and provides an opportunity for public safety fleet managers to learn from their colleagues with "Public Safety Group Workshop," an annual session held on Sunday, April 25 during the Association's annual Institute & Expo at the Cobo Center in Detroit.

"Public Safety Workshops are made up of public safety fleet managers from throughout North America," explained Robert S. Martinez, Director of the City of New York's Police Department. "Collectively each workshop has over 500 years of real, hands-on fleet experience. The workshops also keep us fleet managers up-to-date with the latest technologies and best business practices to help keep our fleets on the cutting-edge of efficiency."

The session covers problems that public safety fleet managers have been experiencing with police vehicles and what steps are being taken to correct the problems, a discussion of vehicle problem reports received by NAFA from fellow public safety fleet managers, and an examination of the "quick fixes" that public safety fleet managers can use to correct some of the unique problems they are having with particular vehicles.

"Each year we switch topics and try to focus on the latest and greatest trends and steer the public safety group towards utilizing their time at the I&E in the most time-efficient manner," continued Martinez. "The Expo has always helped me learn what other fleet managers are doing and I try to utilize the newly acquired knowledge and apply it to my fleet.

"The best part of the workshops is that they we learn real solutions from the people who have actual hands-on experience and who are held accountable for those solutions."

The Public Safety Group Workshop will be facilitated by Robert S. Martinez and George L. Schwarz, Fleet Administrator for the Borough of Camp Hill, Harrisburg, PA. It is just one of more than 40 different educational sessions - adding up to over 60 hours of fleet training, education, and workshops -- at this year's Institute & Expo, which runs April 24-27.

The 2010 I&E marks NAFA's return to Detroit for the first time since the 1980s and features Keynote Speeches from high-ranking executives of the Detroit 3 including Robert A. Lutz, Vice Chairman of General Motors; Mark Fields, Executive Vice President of Ford Motor Company; and Peter Grady, Vice President - Network Development & Fleet of Chrysler Group LLC.
